Going beyond saving lives.
St. Joseph’s Hospital is quite literally a lifesaver and a key institution in Moshi, Tanzania. They are also wonderful and highly trusted partners of ours. This fully developed hospital includes both male and female wards, a maternity and pediatric ward, an outpatient ward, and 3 operating theaters.
In 2019 we partnered with Project C.U.R.E to fill a medical container with essential medical equipment and supplies to stock the hospital. This container had anesthesia machines, radiology machines, medical beds, boxes of equipment and so much more. These supplies equipped the hospital and doctors with what they needed in order to provide a greater level of medical care, not just to the patients, but also to the local community.
There are many volunteering opportunities for every level of medical expertise and interest. As a physician, you can volunteer to work side by side with the local Tanzanian doctors to perform life-saving surgeries. Or as a nurse or medical student, you can work directly with a local physician and assist in daily activities, work in the prenatal unit or help with care on different floors where additional support is needed.
In addition, we built a 3-bedroom safe space for women that have been abused, neglected or pregnant. This space provides pre-natal care, delivery and post-natal care to the patients. As a volunteer, you can help these young women with their educational needs, teaching them about pregnancy, their bodies, proper nutrition and hygiene.
If you’re interested in having a significant impact in the lives of underprivileged individuals, while getting real hands-on experience, this is the adventure for you. The staff is responsive and welcoming, and tremendously appreciative of any kind of support you’re willing to provide while you are there.
